"Just Say No" did not work to combat drug abuse in the 1980s, nor do abstinence-only (AO) programs designed to prevent pregnancy work either. Multiple studies have proven this. Worse, AO sometimes deprives youth of the positive information they receive regarding reproductive health. The great thing is that the Look Both Ways textbook and curricula address abstinence as the BEST way to avoid pregnancy, STIs, and any emotional uncertainty turmoil from a teen’s first sexual experience (because we know some teens will engage in sexual activity.) And talking about it makes it a more viable choice. There is nothing wrong with abstinence, and Look Both Ways teaches that.
